One of my associates spent hours writing a paper and sent it to me to proofread. I read the document and jotted down my ideas, typed in some comments, a little cut here, a little paste there, a whole bunch of deletions with research references, and then, in a moment that can only be described as distracted creativity (?), promptly saved it overwriting the original file. Yikes!
That’s when the “Oh No You Didn’t!” rang out through the office.
Fortuitously, I had printed out the original document. Even more fortunately, our office had been sent a copy of PDF Converter Professional 6.0 from Nuance Communications for review.
What to do... what to do!
First I panicked. OK, maybe
panic is too strong a word. I became greatly concerned coupled with a
sprinkling of emotional distress. Next, I took out the PDF Converter
Professional 6.0 CD from Nuance.
The installation was quick and
straightforward. The interface is easy to use incorporating large
recognizable icons with a familiar look and feel. It easily takes MS
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files and puts them into PDF format
complete with text, columns, tables and graphics. The Organizer Panel
has some of my favorite features to utilize in a document, including
stamps, clipart, envelops and watermarks. The security and
sign/certify options add the necessary components for secure legal
documents.
Back to our Story
I created a series of PDFs from the original printed document using the
'from scanner' option in Pro 6's interface. Scanning all the sheets PDF
Converter Professional 6.0 converted them into MS Word format that
could then be edited. Big exhale....Whew.
So
you might be thinking, “come on, it couldn’t have been that easy?” It
actually was. That’s thanks to the fact that Nuance has incorporated
the OCR (optical character recognition) technology in their OmniPage
program into PDF Converter. It converted everything in the scanned
pages perfectly and at the push of a button.
I’ve been intrigued
with Nuance Communications since the software developer acquired the
Dragon Dictate speech recognition and command technology, which not
only aids productivity, but also helps people who are unable to easily
type on a computer.
I’m Really Liking This Software
I started taking a closer look at the program and was truly impressed.
PDF Converter Professional 6 has functions that save time, money and
aggravation. The ability to convert static PDF (Portable Document
Format) files to fillable forms is a refreshing convenience.
There
are only two serious options for businesses that need an
enterprise-class program to create, edit, convert and share PDF -
Adobe® Acrobat® and Nuance PDF Converter Professional 6. Nuance has
document productivity and collaboration features that Adobe doesn’t
have, and at one quarter (1/4) the price.
Nuance provides a
better product at a much lower cost. At a time when offices are looking
for better solutions at a better price point Nuance Communication
delivers.
Happy Ending
With the document safely recovered, everyone in the office relaxed and
I was able to complete the proofreading my associate needed while
acquiring a powerful new tool for my document arsenal.
