Over the next several months we will be putting a new Vista O/S test system into operation. Its purpose will be to test compatibility and performance of various pieces of hardware and software on Microsoft’s latest panacea for all our computer ills. This is a powerful system powered by an AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ processor and 2 Gigabytes of Corsair XMS2 matched memory all wrapped up nicely in an Antec P180 case with matching 650 watt power supply. A full list of the components will appear in conjunction with the articles for easy reference.
Also, as part of our SOHO (small office/home office) business focus, we will be looking at the Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) market with particular focus on companies like SunRocket and Vonage. These are probably the most popular in this genre for the home and SOHO marketplace. Along with this, we’ll take a look at a few pieces of phone equipment that can work well with these services.
As would be expected with the launch of a new operating system from Microsoft, the consumer side of the market has taken the lead. In that respect we will be looking at some of the more popular uses for the Vista powered system including digital imaging and video. We’ve already begun testing on a wonderful scanner from Hewlett Packard (HP) and look forward to writing more about it soon.
